This week, CPU will once again celebrate Christ Emphasis Week with the Theme: “Life in 3D – Discipline Determines Destiny.”
There are two pertinent definitions of the word discipline. As a verb, it means “to punish or penalize for the sake of enforcing obedience and perfecting moral character.” As a noun, it is defined as a “training that corrects or molds the mental faculties or moral character.”
Hebrews 12:11 reminds us that God disciplines us to correct us. “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
Are we willing to accept the discipline of God? Are we accepting the punishment that God has given us for our good? What should our attitude be?
First, we need to accept God’s discipline and make corrections now because it will determine our final destiny. Judgment Day is real. Heaven and hell are real. By correcting our ways, we are accepting God’s gift of eternal life with Him.
Second, we need to remember that God’s discipline is the way that we are being molded as disciples of Jesus Christ. The words discipline and disciple are connected, and the meaning of each word enriches the other. Simply put, we are trained to be disciples of Jesus by the consistent discipline of God.
