“Apart from Jesus we are nothing” – Seeds of Faith – January 20, 2020

Have you tried reading Genesis 1 together with John 1? If you have not yet done that, then it is high time that you should do it. These two chapters are so connected with one another that it will lead you to praise God!

What can we learn from these two chapters that we can apply in our lives?

First, like the Earth before, our lives are formless, empty and dark without Jesus Christ.

John 1 tells that everything was made through Jesus. This tells us that apart from Jesus we are nothing. Indeed without Jesus, we are without purpose.

The word “Word” in Greek is logos. This is where logic comes from, as well as logy in which we add for example to bio, and it becomes biology. When you delve deeper, “logos” means “meaning”, “sense”, “reason.”

So, if Jesus is in our lives we will find out the true meaning of our existence. The moment that we also surrender our five senses to God, everything will also make sense. Jesus will also our questions and we will know the reason for our being.

Second, light is essential to having a life. The first command of God in Genesis is “Let there be light.” John 1 also tells us that Jesus is the Light.

Science tells us that light is essential to the world around us. Without the Sun, it would be impossible to continue the existence of all life on Earth.

The importance of light leads us to why John 1 is connected to Genesis 1. Jesus as the Light gives life to all people in this world. This means that apart from Jesus we will have no life at all.

A lot of people are still in darkness. We are given by Jesus to let our light shine to people. This means to let Jesus be seen in our lives. In doing so, we are piercing the darkness so that the light will shine through.

May God bless us all!
