“A different kind of freedom” – Seeds of Faith – June 13, 2022

June 12 is Independence Day in the Philippines. Filipinos celebrated the freedom that was achieved from the colonial oppression of Spain.
In the Bible, Paul talked about a different kind of freedom if we have Jesus Christ in our lives.
Romans 6:22 says, “But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.” Similarly, Paul also wrote in 1 Corinthians 7:22, “For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave.”
What can we learn from these verses?
First, Jesus has set us free from the bondage of sin.
Without Jesus Christ, we are slaves of sin. This means that our master is sin, and we follow our sinful nature.
Second, from being slaves of sin, we no become slaves of Jesus Christ.
This seems to be ironical but it is not. Jesus has bought us with a price. This means that we belong to Him now. Jesus has freed from us sin, and we now follow Him as our liberator.
Third, our freedom in Jesus Christ should lead us to live righteous lives.
Our freedom in Jesus Christ should not mean that we can do anything that we want. In contrary, this freedom empowers us to do what is right and to live in holiness.
Ultimately, the freedom that Jesus gave us will lead us into eternal life in heaven.
May God bless us all!
Sincerely,
