One of the events after the resurrection of Jesus Christ and before His ascension is the giving of Jesus of what we call now as the Great Commission.
What can we learn from this command of Jesus Christ?
First, the Great Commission is a commandment to all followers of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ gave the gathered disciples in Galilee the Great Commission: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
This commandment is not only for the disciples who were present at that time, but for all who professed to be Christians today. We are all called to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others and make disciples of all nations. We must not keep the message of salvation to ourselves but must be willing to share it with others.
Second, the Great Commission is a call to action.
The Great Commission is not a suggestion but a call to action. As Christians, we are called to actively go out into the world and make disciples. We cannot sit back and expect people to come to us. We must be willing to go to them, share the Gospel, and lead them to salvation. This requires boldness, courage, and commitment.
We must be willing to step out of our comfort zones and engage with people who are different from us. We must be willing to show love and compassion to those who may not believe as we do. And we must be willing to persevere even in the face of rejection or persecution.
We should also remember that we are the result of somebody who obeyed the Great Commission. Someone shared Jesus to us because he or she followed the command of Jesus to go.
Let us take up the call to make disciples!
