Firstly, do not seek to protect your own power.
King Herod was disturbed by the news of a newborn King of the Jews because he saw Jesus as a threat to his throne (Matthew 2:3). His obsession with maintaining his power led to the tragic massacre of innocent children (Matthew 2:16).
This Christmas, let us surrender control of our lives to Christ, recognizing that He is the rightful King. Instead of clinging to our pride, status, or possessions, let us humble ourselves and make room for Him.
What areas of your life are you still holding onto instead of surrendering to Jesus?
Secondly, do not manipulate others for selfish gain.
Herod pretended to want to worship Jesus, asking the Magi to report back to him (Matthew 2:7-8). However, his true intention was to eliminate the child. His deceit reveals a heart that uses others as tools for personal schemes.
Let us avoid using people for our advantage. Instead, reflect Christ’s love by serving others selflessly.
Are your interactions motivated by love and sincerity, or are there hidden agendas?
Thirdly, do not let fear lead to destructive actions.
Herod’s fear of losing his throne led him to commit one of the most heinous acts recorded in the Bible. Fear blinded him to the good news of Jesus’ birth and caused immense suffering.
Fear can cause us to act irrationally, but Jesus brings peace. Trust in God’s sovereignty and let His love cast out all fear (1 John 4:18).
How can you replace fear with faith as you face challenges every day?
This Christmas and beyond it, let us choose the path opposite of Herod’s. Instead of clinging to power, manipulating others, or succumbing to fear, let us worship Jesus with genuine hearts, like the Magi who came to honor Him. May we align our lives with Christ’s example of humility, truth, and love.
May God bless us all! Merry Christmas!
Sincerely,
